Tools menu - Indexing Performance

Modified on Wed, 29 May at 11:39 AM

Copernic Desktop Search constantly monitors your computer's activity to pause or restrict the indexation when the computer resources are highly used (more or less 40% CPU / disk I/O / network I/O) by other programs or processes. It also pauses or restrict the indexation while you are using the computer and restart the indexation after a certain period of inactivity.

Indexing Modes

  1. Unrestricted:

      • Uses all available resources on the computer.
      • May be usefull to perform a quick build of your index but could impair responsiveness of other applications.
  2. Restricted:

      • Pause indexation if the Copernic Desktop Search process exceed 40% of CPU usage.
      • Pause indexation if the Copernic Desktop Search process global I/O (disk and network) uses more than 40% resources.
      • Pause indexation for 10 seconds when the focus is in the main interface and you use the computer.
      • Pause indexation for 2 minutes when the focus is outside of Copernic and you use the computer.
      • Pause indexation while computer is on battery mode.
  3. Smart (Default):

      • Wait 10 seconds between item indexation if the Copernic Desktop Search process exceed 40% of CPU usage.
      • Wait 10 seconds between item indexation if the Copernic Desktop Search process global I/O (disk and network) uses more than 40% resources.
      • Wait 15 seconds between item indexation if you use the computer. Recover after 10 seconds when the focus is in the main interface or 2 minutes if the focus is outside of Copernic.
      • Pause indexation while computer is on battery mode.

Modify the Indexing Performance from the Tools menu :

    • In the Tools menu, select Indexing Performance .
    • Choose between Unrestricted, Restricted or Smart.

Modify the Indexing Performance from the tray icon :

    • Right click on the tray icon in the zone of notification.
    • Select Indexing Performance.
    • Choose between Unrestricted, Restricted or Smart.
NOTE: USUALLY, THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO SET THE INDEXING PERFORMANCE ON SMART OR RESTRICTED. PARTICULARLY WHEN YOU ARE USING YOUR COMPUTER. HOWEVER, IT COULD BE A GREAT IDEA TO USE THE UNRESTRICTED OPTION WHEN YOU WANT TO BUILD OR REBUILD QUICKLY YOUR INDEX.
