Index regularly deleted at startup

After three years of excellent performance Copernic broke in November 2020. Same PC, same OS (Win 10), same antivirus (Eset 32), same VPN. Since then Copernic deletes its index at startup several times per week and is useless. I used and still use an offline licence. Supporters suggested solutions such as a reinstall of the offline license and protecting the index and CDS configuration file - none worked.

Any other suggestions for making Copernic work again?

I see Francis from Technical Support worked on this privately via our ticketing system. After speaking with R&D, he gave this advice:

I'm back with the answer from R&D.

From what I can see, it is not the index that is corrupted but the configuration file.  If the configuration file gets corrupted, the configuration reverts to its original state, hence the index seems to be lost.

I would suggest to keep a copy of the "config.xml" file from the "%localappdata%\Copernic\DesktopSearch" folder and recopy the file if a corruption occurs again.
Did you have a Windows crash or other event that could have caused Windows to shut down unexpectedly that could have caused a corruption of the file?

Since this might be experienced by others, I've posted the suggestion here. However, this sort of question can be sent directly to support@copernic.com in order for advice specific to your situation.

I have Ver. 8.0.0 Build 14438 run on a laptop with server and PC and desktop hard drive indexing. This used to work but now when I take laptop away from server and desk top hard drive, leaving only the Laptop, on shut down and then start up the index has been deleted and restarts; this renders the program useless.

This did not use to occur and I have run Copernic for many years.

A fic please.
